Our Area
Rockdale is the smallest county in both land and population in metro Atlanta, and the second smallest in the state of Georgia.
Its close proximity to Atlanta - 25 minutes from downtown - and a strong sense of community account for Rockdale's steady growth of more than 168 percent since 1970.
Employment has also grown. Established businesses are relocating to Rockdale and the area retains a solid core of manufacturing jobs. John Deere, AT&T and BellSouth have chosen this quiet community.
By the year 2000, the population of Rockdale County reached 75,000, with business activity keeping pace. Even so, Rockdale plans on remaining primarily a suburban, residential community with commercial activity centered in Conyers, the only incorporated city in the county
With one of the top school systems in the state and the nation, education is another drawing point to this close-knit community. Rockdale's students consistently outscore their peers in the state and metro area on skills tests.
With its community spirit, Conyers and Rockdale County earned the opportunity to host the 1996 Olympic Equestrian, Mountain Biking and Two Modern Pentathlon events. A local site encompassing more than 1,200 acres was selected for the Georgia International Horse Park, which housed the equestrian venue and a permanent regional recreational complex. The park has been completed along with the new Arnold Palmer - designed golf course, Cherokee Run.
Alton Housworth of American Land Mart donated a large piece of granite to Rockdale County. It was taken from the Housworth family quarry in 1997.
Located 30 miles east of Atlanta, Conyers offers close proximity to the Atlanta cultural areas and museums that are known worldwide.
Atlanta is the home of "Atlanta Braves Baseball", the "Atlanta Hawks Basketball" and other professional teams.
